The handbook and accompanying materials are designed to support teachers in developing digital competencies of young people. The publication proposes a new approach to digital and media education, which is based on the belief that digital skills are worth developing in parallel with building emotional awareness and agency, enhancing creativity, a sense of belonging and social connection, and raising self-esteem.
Each material begins with a commentary for the educator, providing background information on the topic. Next is a glossary, followed by a lesson plan based on the Kolb cycle, the method of experiential learning. The manual also comes with multimedia presentations for each topic.
The lesson plans proposed in this book are aligned with the core curriculum for secondary schools. They can be effectively used by teachers of various subjects, including language arts, civics, history and contemporary issues, ethics, computer science, and the basics of entrepreneurship. Many topics can also be discussed during homeroom sessions, as well as extracurricular and out-of-school activities.
The 45-minute lesson plans have been designed for work with students in secondary schools: high schools, professional technical schools, and vocational schools (levels 2 and 3).
This publication was developed by the Fundacja Szkoła z Klasą/School With Class Foundation as part of the Be Internet Awesome program supported by Google.org.
